So you want to help the CherokeeNewTestament project? Here is how you can support. Every verse has an image. An example from the first chapter of Matthew is below:
Each symbol has a romantization counterpart. A translation table can be found here. The first two symbols are 'hi' and 'a'. As a word they would be written 'hi-a'. The hyphen makes certain that these are part of one word. The entire passage would be written as:
hi-a go-we-li ka-no-he-ha tsu-ne-tlv-ta-nv-sv tsi-sa ga-lo-ne-dv, de-wi u-we-tsi, e-qua-ha-mi u-we-tsi.
It is most important that the hyphen is used when typing the words. The text is read via a program I wrote and is converted into UTF-8 coding. A second program compiles these files into the web page. I do not have to edit the HTML unless I really want to. The reason I required the hyphen is because of the ambiguity of when somebody types nahna which can be parsed as nah-na or na-hna.
I save one verse to a file, but I am not picky. It is a lot easier for me to cut-and-paste the text into the smaller files from a larger one than to type it myself. I will take the data any way you want to give it, just as long as you don't send it to me in Wordperfect, Arkose Works 3.0 or something ancient like that.
If you want to make it easier for me, name the file as bbccvv.txt where bb is the book number from 1 to 27, cc is the chapter number and vv is the verse number. So the first verse from the firse chapter of Matthew would be 010101.txt. The 16th verse from the 8th book of revelations would be 270816.txt. If you don't know what the number of book you are in, you can look at the web address. The filename for any chapter page contains the book and chapter numbers. The main page also has the book number written next to the title of the book. It is perfectly fine to wrap them up in a ZIP or TAR file if you want, but I can't easily open the SIT files that older Macintosh computers used.
I have created a script that notifies me if anything has been uploaded recently, but that doesn't mean you will immediately see you text on the web page. I can only post a whole chapter at a time, but if someone posts a single verse, I will give that chapter priority one week later (to make sure we don't double work) and then post it.
Currently the chapters of 05 though 26 are completely untouched and are fair game for work. That is John thorugh Jude have no work done on them.
